Manufacturer: EICO (USA)
Model: 400, S#2837
Vintage: 1948
Purpose: Wideband Oscilloscope, Kit
Condition: Not Working
Comments:
EICO is well known for their kits. While the 425 and 460 models are still widely available, the model 400 is rare. It is preceding the 425 model by a few years. The documentation for the 400 states 11/1948 as date. The 425 was available in 1949. It just shows how rapid developments were and tough competition at the same time.
The last picture shows a comparison between the two models. Note that beside the top front panel labeling, the settings for coarse frequency sweep are different. Especially the sweep circuit between the two scopes is different, the 400 using a 884 thyratron, while the 425 uses a 6SN7.
