Manufacturer: SYLVANIA (USA)
Model: 131, S#2455
Vintage: 1948
Purpose: General Purpose
Condition: Unknown
Comments:
This unit is in very good condition. Some modifications were made.
There were two versions of the 131. This is the later version. At around serial number 2000, the front-plate design changed, to look similar to the 132.
Any versions of the 131 are rare. I have to assume that most customers went straight for the 132 with a 7in CRT. The inner design of the 131 is similar to the 132 with "I-Beam" chassis and tubes upside down. This is somewhat awkward to work on. There are about a dozen screws which need to be removed for opening the housing. Other scopes of that era (i.e. Dumont, RCA) had a better mechanical design. Sylvania had only a brief period of scope production, about 20 years, from mid 30s to mid 50s.
Thanks to Kent Stephenson for manual and sales brochure.
