Comments:
This scope was used to test and diagnose radar equipment. It has a linear sweep (like any normal scope) and a circular sweep (like a radar screen). Scopes with a circular sweep are also called J-scopes or O-scopes.
The circular trace is deflected by a connection at the center of the CRT face. The type of CRT in this scope is a 3DP1. While a linear trace is required to measure time / frequency, a circular trace can be used to indicate an angle / direction, a basic requirement for  radar systems. The circle on a J-scope is about three times the diameter of the CRT.
Radar was invented in the 30s and was put into service in 1940. The superiority in radar technology was a big advantage for the allies in WWII. Units like this were on the forefront of military technology.
Unfortunately I don't have good documentation for it. Please contact if you have more information about this piece.
