Manufacturer: Transformer Corporation of America (TCA), Chicago, IL (USA)
Model: Clarion PA913, S#???
Vintage: 1937
Purpose: General Purpose, Kit
Condition: Unknown
Comments:
This oscilloscope was a kit, sold by TCA, Transformer Corporation of America. TCA and other transformer manufacturers sold oscilloscope kits in the 30s and 40s, probably to market their transformers. Other examples would be Thordarson and ITC.
This scope had a 913 CRT originally and at some point someone decided to replace it with a 902 CRT. The sockets and CRT mounting must have changed too. Although the 902 has the same connection, it is much longer than the 913. I tried to plug in a 913 but the face ends up too low beneath the opening, that it is not practical.
The housing of this unit is unique with the CRT pointing up and all operation elements on the front. There is no indication of a CRT cover or other kind of protection. This particular unit is well built and must have worked at some point, why would anyone replace the CRT otherwise.
There are no markings or labels on the housing, only a nameplate on the transformer "PA913".
Tube Line up is: 902 (913), 885, 80, 6J7, 6K7
